Arf-likeprotein1(Arl1)isamemberoftheArffamilyofregulatoryGTPases,withintheRassuperfamilyofGTPases,andwithhighlyconservedorthologsthroughouteukaryotes.Arl1isessentialforearlyembryonicdevelopmentinDrosophilaandinCaenorhaBDitiselegans.Arl1ismostsimilarinprimarysequence,cellularlocation,andfunction(regulationofmembranetraffic)toArf1-6andevensharesseveralcommonbindingpartners.InadditiontoitsfunctioninmembranetrafficattheGolgi/trans-Golginetwork,therearereportsindicatingapossIBLeroleforArl1inionhomeostasisinyeast.

CurrentlythereisnodirectassaytomeasuretheactivationofArl1GTPases.

Theseanti-Arl1-GTPmonoclonalantibodiescanalsobeusedtomonitortheactivationofArl1incellsandintissuesbyimmunohistochemistry.
